“What’s all that noise from the sidelines?”

(Loud adult noise from the sidelines) “Shoot the ball! Kick it! Come on Billy; for God’s sake shoot it! (The 10 year old who’s related to the voice nervously tries to pass the ball to his nearest teammate but instead, it awkwardly dribbles off the side of his foot out of bounds. The boy’s father is now yelling.) “Billy what the heck’s wrong with you son? Are you that stupid? I said shoot it! Do it like I showed you! Now don’t be lazy! Move your butt and go get that ball back! (The boy looks miserable and quickly glances over to the sidelines at his father before he hangs his head and runs after the ball.  A few minutes later an opposing player cleanly tackles Billy and takes the ball away from him. The referee’s whistle is silent.  The father explodes at the official.) “Are you blind or what? Where’s the foul? How can you not call anything there? That’s a yellow card, ref! How can you not see

  • Briscoe wins HCAC Men’s Soccer weekly award

    Anderson University’s David Briscoe has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Monday.

    The freshman midfielder scored the game-winning goal in AU’s 1-0 victory over Bluffton on Saturday. He added a goal and an assist in the Ravens’ 6-1 victory over Robert Morris on Wednesday in Springfield, Ill.

    Briscoe leads the Ravens with four goals and is second in points with 11 for the season.

    AU (6-7, 3-0 HCAC) hosts conference rival Manchester on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 4 p.m.

  • Hard Luck Continues in Overtime Loss to Minnesota

    Lindsey Schwartz' sixth goal of the season was the difference as Minnesota knocked off the Indiana women's soccer team 1-0 in overtime on Sunday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Lindsay Campbell made two saves for the Hoosiers in the loss.

  • AU men still unbeaten with shutout over Bluffton

    The Anderson University men’s soccer team remained unbeaten in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, defeating Bluffton University 1-0 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field.

    David Briscoe scored the lone goal in the game in the 77th minute with assists from Paul Hill and Stephen Girt.

    AU outshot Bluffton in the game 14-7, but the Beavers held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Jordan Hobbs earned the shutout in goal, making two saves.

    Matt Young led the Ravens with three shots while Briscoe, Caleb Nickel and David Droeger each had two shots.

    AU (6-7, 3-0 HCAC) hosts conference rival Manchester on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 4 p.m.

  • Bluffton knocks off women’s soccer in 2 OTs

    The Anderson University women’s soccer team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University 1-0 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field.

    The Beavers scored the lone goal of the contest in the 8th minute of the second overtime and the 118th minute overall.

    AU outshot Bluffton 18-8 in the game and also had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Mary Deitrich led the Ravens with seven shots and Abbey Witt added five shots. Heidi Lanzer had five saves in goal for AU.

    AU (5-8, 1-2 HCAC) hosts conference rival Manchester on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 2 p.m.

  • Hawkeyes Take 1-0 Contest From Indiana

    Alyssa Cosnek scored at 18:30 and that was all the offense Iowa would need in topping the Indiana women's soccer team 1-0 on Friday night at the UI Soccer Complex. The Hoosiers outshot the Hawkeyes 14-7 in the contest, but Iowa made seven saves in goal to pick up the victory.
